The Scrap Metal Council (SMC) is a state corporation domiciled in the State Department for Industry. It was established by the Scrap Metal Council Act of 2015 with the mandate to develop appropriate measures and mechanisms for regulating the scrap metal industry to ensuring economic growth, protection of public health, and conformity to principles of environmental stewardship as required by the Basel Convention, to institute appropriate measures and mechanisms for protecting the public interest against vandalism,
